Five Secrets for a Small Wedding with a Big Impact
Those who go for a smaller wedding – because of budget, practicalities or preferences – don't need to compromise on impact; the smaller the wedding, the more memorable it can be.
Don't belittle your event – never consider it "just" a small wedding. It's a wedding! And there aren't many things that trump that.
Beyond that, we recommend you consider these five key ingredients for a small wedding with a big impact.
1. Consider non-traditional venues. One of the best things about a small wedding and reception is that you can think outside of the box. You need to choose a venue that feels intimate for your numbers, but the list of venues you can choose from is endless, including boats, beaches, botanical gardens, bandstands and summerhouses. Let your imagination run wild before you home in on your best options.
2. Put your personal stamp on it. With smaller numbers, you can afford to spend a little more per head to ensure your day perfectly reflects who you are, from the venue to the music, food and drink and décor. You'll also have fewer people's needs to consider, so you can focus on what you love rather than trying to satisfy hundreds of guests all at once.
3. Pamper yourself! Set aside time and money to get your hair and makeup done. Treat yourself, if you'd like to, so that you feel on top of the world. Even if you'd normally do your makeup yourself, consider getting a professional to help – it can last so much longer when done by an expert, and it will enable you to forget your appearance and focus on enjoying yourself.
4. Capture those moments. As much as you try to soak it all in, you may still find the whole thing a bit of a blur. Photographs will capture things that you don't see – happy tears among the congregation as you take your vows, and even your own face after you say 'I do'. Photographs and video of your day are keepsakes that will last generations; invest wisely and you'll be bringing them out for years to come.
5. Embrace the traditions. Hold on to whatever quintessential wedding traditions that appeal to you, even if yours is a small wedding. Get the big dress if you want to (or go big on a dress that you can dye and turn into the ultimate evening gown or keep for the next generation). Don't scrimp on speeches – far from it, speeches at intimate gatherings are some of the best. Cut your cake with a sword and open the dancing to a five-piece jazz band. Whatever you do, do it freely – this is your day, don't hold back.
At ARC, creating intimacy with a lasting impact is what we're all about. And we believe that the smallest weddings are some of the best.
